“Weekend” beginner photography course

The “Weekend” beginner photography course will be held on 1 and 2 April

A beginner photography course over a weekend, for those who are short on time during the week or can’t attend all 10 lessons of the beginner photography course.

For those who’d like to go deeper into certain topics, there are the single-topic modules of the advanced photography course.

  • Course dates: Saturday 1 April (full day in the studio, 9 am – 1 pm and 2.30 pm – 6.30 pm) and Sunday 2 April (10 am – 12.30 pm, on location);
  • Maximum participants: 6;
  • Cost: 120 euros;

This 8-hour course aims to give you all the knowledge you need to use your camera (DSLR or mirrorless) both in manual mode and in the semi-automatic modes (shutter or aperture priority) that modern cameras offer. To do this (compared with the full beginner course), we won’t cover topics such as the history of photography or other “not strictly practical” subjects.

Using the equipment in my photo studio, we’ll practise a lot right from the start, so you learn the concepts of each module in the best possible way.

Practical outing on Sunday

On Sunday morning we’ll go on a photo outing to put the previous day’s topics into practice: the images will then be discussed in the Facebook group of the photography courses (reserved for participants).

Course topics

These are the topics we’ll cover:

  • Modern cameras: DSLR, mirrorless, drone photography, smartphone photography;
  • What to consider when buying a camera;
  • Lenses: wide-angle, telephoto, zoom, macro…
  • How to choose the right photographic equipment for each genre:
    • Portrait photography;
    • Landscape photography;
    • Macro photography;
    • Reportage;
    • Night photography;
  • The exposure triangle: how to use shutter speed, aperture and ISO correctly to get well-exposed photos and manage light in the best way;
    • Using aperture for a blurred background or sharp photos;
    • Using shutter speed to “freeze the moment” or create motion blur;
    • Using ISO correctly;

During the day we’ll do exercises (each with your own camera or one I provide) to understand the various topics.

For those who’d like to explore some topics further, there is the advanced photography course, organised in modules: separate meetings on specific topics.
